BWell Health Club
BWell Clinic

BWell offers various Exercise Referral Programmes to help increase the opportunities of local people who would benefit medically from regular physical activity.

Exercise Referral Scheme

The Exercise Referral Scheme allows members of the public to be referred by their GP’s or other medical professionals to the gym to follow a structured exercise programme.

The scheme provides a supervised alternative for those with specific medical conditions to exercise in a controlled environment.

The BWell schemes run for 10 sessions over a course of 6 weeks. An initial assessment and induction is given with a qualified Exercise Referral Instructor. An individual exercise programme will then be tailored for each participant to follow. At the end of the 10 sessions the client will be offered a discounted membership rate if they wish to continue their good work in the gym!

The BWell Exercise Referral Scheme has proved to be highly successful, introducing many people into regular exercise whilst helping them to improve their health and wellbeing.

If you are interested in the exercise referral scheme then ask your doctor or give one of our clubs a call for more information.

Pulmonary Referral Programme

BWell has developed a referral programme in conjunction with the Respiratory Department of the James Paget Hospital for those who suffer with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Since early 2006 the Respiratory Department of the hospital have referred their patients to BWell to follow a structured exercise programme under the supervision of the BWell staff.

All participants are given an individual consultation, assessment and induction in order to establish the best exercise programme for each person. Clients will then attend a weekly session in the gym for 10 sessions, whilst supporting their programme by following activity recommendations at home.

The aim of this programme is to help increase the exercise or activity tolerance of those who suffer with COPD. Programmes are designed to be functional and are specific to the individuals’ requirements. We recognise that all clients have different levels of fitness, experience and interests and consider this when delivering our programmes. Staff will motivate, encourage and advise people on the programme and when they have completed their sessions all clients will be offered a discounted membership in order to maintain and progress their achievements.

Stroke Referral Programme

BWell has worked in partnership with the Stroke Health Opportunities Programme (S.H.O.P.) since 2005 to provide an Exercise Referral Programme for people who have suffered from a stroke or TIA (mini stroke).

BWell offers a carefully monitored programme of individually prescribed exercises for those referred to us by S.H.O.P. Participants are encouraged to maintain their activity level at home to compliment the exercise programme they follow at the gym.

BWell and our members fundraise for the charity to support the referral programme, by holding charity events throughout the year.
